LAMBTON PRESBYTERY MINUTES UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA

The Lambton Presbytery met on November 19, 2015 for its regularly scheduled meeting at Camlachie United Church. Members of the church served a pork dinner. Worship was led by Wilma Johnson with music by the Camlachie United Church Choir.

The meeting was constituted at 6:20 p.m. with a quorum present. Chair Adam Kilner opened the meeting, saying “In the name of Jesus Christ, the one true Head of the Church, I declare this meeting of London Presbytery open for the transaction of business, as may properly come before it.”

CONSENT DOCKET
Moved by Doug Wright, seconded by Marilyn Towsend-Smith and carried that the consent docket be approved as circulated.

Jim Breen reported for the Education and Students Committee that Gord Spence, a candidate for ordained ministry, decided to discontinue his candidacy for ordained ministry after recognizing his call to lay ministry.
Moved by Jim Breen, seconded by Doug Wright and carried that at the request of candidate Gord Spence that Lambton Presbytery recommend that his candidacy for ordained ministry be discontinued.

Pastoral Relations

Stewardship Oversight- Nick Monsour

Moved by Elizabeth McDonald, seconded by Judy Raymond and carried that Shiloh- Inwood be allowed to use its manse funds up to $5,000 to purchase and install a new furnace in Inwood church.
A question was raised as to how many times a church is allowed to withdraw from its manse fund. Nick Monsour agreed to seek clarification on the matter.

Nick Monsour, the Archivist for Lambton Presbytery, encouraged churches in the Presbytery to send their historic documents to the Archives.

LONDON CONFERENCE EXECUTIVE REPORT Louise Hall
Louise Hall gave a brief report, saying the mission support grant for St. Clair United was approved for $32,000, which was less than what was requested. (See Appendix: 2015- 76)

LAMBTON CENTRE John Fisher, development coordinator
John Fisher gave a brief report, saying that high winds have destroyed some trees on the property and asked for help locating someone with a portable saw mill or similar equipment to help with the removal of these large trees.

THREE COURT PILOT PROJECT Brad Morrison
Moved by Brad Morrison, seconded by Doug Wright and carried that Lambton Presbytery upon approval of London Conference undertake the pilot project authorized by London Conference which includes:

  1. a)  Suspending meetings of the full court and divisions of presbytery following the November 2015 meeting.

  2. b)  Referring business to presbytery executive.

  3. c)  Convening the full court of presbytery to deal with remits as necessary and

  4. d)  Entrusting to presbytery executive the timing of the decision to discontinue the pilot

    project.

Moved by Carey Wagner, seconded by Doug Wright and carried that Lambton Presbytery

appoint Jim Breen and Janet Uren as co-pastoral supervisors for Forest United Church

effective Nov 19, 2015.

The presbytery was told that the General Council Executive would meet on November 23, 2015 and was expected to approve the pilot projects.

Brad Morrison led presbyters through a three-part exercise in which they were asked to indicate what body had the ultimate responsibility for the various tasks presently done by the presbytery. This was followed by an opportunity to discuss and record their concerns related to the pilot project and a debriefing of losses and opportunities. The information would be forwarded to London Conference. (See Appendix: 2015-75)

Moved by Carey Wagner, seconded by Diane Anderson-Robinson and carried that the meeting of Presbytery be adjourned.
The meeting was closed at 8:02 pm.
