February 9, 2012 LAMBTON PRESBYTERY MINUTES 2012-7 UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA

Lambton Presbytery met at London Road West United Church on February 9, 2012. The London Road West UCW served a delicious supper. Rev. Marilyn Townsend-Smith of London Road West United Church led us in worship asking how do ministers and presbyters make a difference and reminding us to use the gifts of the spirit and go be the people God intends you to be. At the London Conference executive meeting they will be reminding your representative to begin the process to consider who would represent your presbytery at the General Council meeting in August in Ottawa.

LAMBTON PRESBYTERY United Church Women - Maxine MacDonald
Lambton Presbyterial UCW held its last meeting of 2011 on November 30 at the newly finished Camlachie United Church. The guest speaker was Sabrina from Pathways Health Centre for Children. It provides services to children and young adults in Lambton County who have physical, developmental and communication needs. They have over 2000 children who receive help through such programs as home support, medical clinics, ECE Resources Support and Aquatics. They just completed a $4,200,00 expansion. She is the supervisor for volunteers and has over 250 volunteers. She showed some of the things that they make to aid the children such as pads with weights to help make them sit still, a bag with alphabet toys, mattress covers and bedding.
We recognized Orlene Pascoe who looks after collecting and counting all the Campbell soup labels we collect. The Lambton Presbyterial UCW Annual Meeting is Wednesday, March 28th at St.Paul's United Church. We are incorporating our 50th Anniversary Celebration into this meeting as well. Marilyn Mitchell will be the guest speaker.
Ladies Day Out is in the planning stages. It will be on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Lambton United Church Centre. Shirley Durance will be our guest speaker portraying Charlotte Eleanor Englehart whom the hospital in Petrolia was named after. 6 workshops will be offered in Crafts, Travelogue, Genealogy, Nature Walk, Music and Bible Study.
FYI UCWs across Canada want to raise $50000 to provide more training for mid-wives at the Morogoro Women's Training Centre, Tanzania.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Ida Burley, Chair of Habitat for Humanity Committee (Lambton Presbytery) The build site is 140 Euphemia St and the family is in the process of being selected. The start of the build
will be the middle to the end of July, 2012. To date Lambton Presbytery has raised $22000.00.
STEWARDSHIP OVERSIGHT DIVISION
Property: Jim Louks, Chair of Property for Lambton Presbytery
MOVED by Jim Louks, SECONDED by Betty Jean Page, CARRIED, that "Lambton Presbytery approve the request of Oakdale Trustees to sell the Oakdale church building and property by real estate and the proceeds to go to the amalgamated congregation of Oakdale Pastoral Charge. Before the sale is finalized it will need approval of Presbytery."
Mission & Service - Wilma Johnson, Mission & Service Chair for Lambton Presbytery
Lambton Presbytery's M&S bag has collected $879.35 at the Presbytery and Presbyterial meetings - $226.65 from the UCW and $652.70 from the Presbytery for the 2011 year. WAY TO GO LAMBTON PRESBYTERY. Thank you for supporting this project. I am going to continue to pass the bag around, as every little bit helps.
The M&S raised $29,119,522.00 to January 27,2012, 92% of Objective across Canada and Lambton Presbytery $337,519.00.
Each church is asked to set an M&S Objective and send the figures to the Toronto office by computer. The forms can be found on the United Church Website or you can e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Each church receives an Info Pak from Head office and in it are innovative ideas to help you raise your M&S givings. I trust each congregation will give this prayerful consideration. I mentioned at the November meeting that Camlachie were doing a memorial tree and 48 angels with the names of their loved ones was placed on it. The Sunday School children helped me make the angels and I told them what the money raised for M&S was going to. A great learning tool. We raised a total of $705. I helped with the children's time on the Sunday before Christmas and we had a prayer and dedicated the tree. I think this will become an annual tradition.
I hope you are also using the 2012 Minute for Mission in some manner at your Sunday Services.
